The Cannon Falls Police Department says the report by a female that she had been stabbed while in a cemetery was false.

The woman reported the stabbing in a call to 911 about 7:43 p.m. Friday.

When officers arrived Cannon Falls Police reported in a news release they began providing care for the victim and ensured the scene was safe for the Cannon Falls Ambulance who transported the victim to the hospital.

The woman initially told authorities she was attacked by two men. One with very dark colored skin and one with light colored skin. She said one was wearing gray basketball shorts.

A Code Red notice was sent out by the Goodhue County Sheriff's Dispatch to residents in the search area. No weapon was recovered and no suspects located.

Officers spoke with the victim again and she admitted it was a false report because she was experiencing a mental health crisis.

In a updated News Release issued this morning.

"The Cannon Falls Police Department is sorry for any inconvenience caused to residents as a result of this false report, however the Cannon Falls Police Department must consider the initial information as valid out of an abundance of caution for the safety and wellbeing of the community.  That was the reason for conducting a search and issuing a waning to persons within the search area.  While conducting the investigation the reporting person interviewed after receiving medical treatment for the injuries admitte to making a false report and provided details proving it was a false report."
