The criminal complaint indicates one of the officers involved in the stop spotted what appeared to be an ammunition magazine in the right front pocket of the jeans worn by Lewis. That resulted in a search and the discovery of a handgun in his front left pocket.

Court records show Lewis was convicted of armed robbery in Milwaukee in 2014. Under Minnesota law, his conviction prohibits him from possessing a firearm which is an offense that carries a mandatory 60-month prison sentence.

Lewis was given credit for the 287 days he has already spent in jail since his arrest.
