Incarcerated Man Accused of Stealing Thousands from Rochester Credit Union

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An incarcerated Rochester man has been charged in connection with a check fraud scheme that cost a local financial institution thousands of dollars.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court. Rochester police learned of the alleged fraud in February of this year.

Rochester Man Serving Prison Sentence for Shooting Charged in Check Fraud Scheme

19-year-old Izayah Frazier is charged with one count of possession or sale of counterfeit or stolen checks. 

The charges say he deposited six checks written out for a combined total of $5,993.88 on the morning of February 12 into a recently created account at a credit union in northwest Rochester. 

The name of the victimized financial institution is not listed in the court document. 

Security camera footage shows Frazier at the credit union’s ATM. The complaint says he withdrew $3,998 before the credit union learned the deposited checks were fraudulent. 

Last month Frazier was sentenced to five years in prison for a conviction stemming from a shooting at a Rochester apartment complex in May.

Court documents in that case indicate Frazier did not actually fire his gun, but he was seen brandishing a firearm before being shot at three times. 

Rochester police found a ghost gun during a search of Frazier’s home as part of the shooting investigation. Frazier is currently serving his prison sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. 

His first court appearance in the check fraud case has not yet been scheduled.
