Spring Valley Man & Woman Hurt after SUV Hits Deer on I-90 in Winona County

Dakota, MN (KROC-AM News)- A man and woman from Spring Valley were taken to a hospital after the vehicle they were in struck a deer.

They were traveling on Interstate 90 in an SUV. The vehicle-deer collision happened shortly after 7:10 Monday evening in Winona County. 

The State Patrol and other emergency personnel responded to the crash about 15 miles east of the interstate’s exit to Winona.

The SUV was traveling west on I-90 when it hit the animal. It then landed in the ditch, according to the state crash report.

74-year-old Charles Darrell Carruth was identified as the driver. Carruth and his passenger, identified as 64-year-old Melanie Kathleen Carruth, were taken to an Emergency Room in La Crosse for further care. 

Their injuries are described as non-life-threatening. Alcohol was not involved in the crash and the Fillmore County residents were buckled up, the state crash report says.  

The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, Nodine Fire and Ambulance and Gundersen Ambulance also responded to the SUV-deer crash.
