51-Year-Old Woman Becomes 7th Labor Day Weekend Death on Minnesota Roads
Fergus Falls, MN (MinnesotaNow)- Traffic deaths continue to mount on Minnesota’s roads during the holiday weekend.

The State Patrol reports a northern Minnesota woman has become at least the seventh person to die in a traffic crash during the Labor Day Weekend travel period.
She was involved in a two-vehicle fatality Sunday afternoon.
State Patrol: Alcohol Use Suspected in Fatal Crash Near Fergus Falls
The deadly crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Hwy. 59 about 20 miles north of Fergus Falls. A southbound Volkswagen car and northbound Buick car collided on the two-lane highway, the state crash report says.
51-year-old Basro Hassan Abokar of Pelican Rapids was identified as the driver of the Buick. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the State Patrol says.
25-year-old Jacob Lee Thatcher of Fergus Falls was driving the Volkswagen. The State Patrol says he was brought to the Emergency Room in Fergus Falls with non-life-threatening injuries.
Thatcher was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and it’s not known if alcohol was in Abokar’s system. The state crash report also says both motorists were buckled up.
Deadly Labor Day Weekend on MN Roads
Two of the at least five fatal Labor Day Weekend crashes occurred in southeast Minnesota.
A 69-year-old Pine Island man died in a motorcycle crash on Hwy. 60 near Wabasha and an 84-year-old woman from Kansas was killed in a crash on the same highway near Kenyon.
A crash in northern Minnesota claimed the lives of three people and a 61-year-old man was killed in a crash on Interstate 694 in the Twin Cities.
