St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News)- The driver of a vehicle apparently fleeing a state trooper died after crashing into a wall in the Twin Cities early Sunday morning.

The State Patrol says the incident began shortly before 2 a.m. It happened at the I-94 and Marion St. interchange in St. Paul and involved a vehicle occupied by three people. 

The state crash report says a trooper observed an eastbound car traveling at a high rate of speed at I-94 and Hamline Ave., which is west of the Minnesota State Capitol. The trooper then activated their squad’s emergency lights and sirens to try and stop the motorist near I-94 and Dale St.

The report says the vehicle continued east and exited the interstate at Marion St. where the trooper decided to discontinue the pursuit. Once off the freeway, the car continued at a high rate of speed through an intersection then crashed into a concrete wall, killing the driver.

The woman driving the car has been identified as 26-year-old Ahayna Elizabeth Sanders. One of the passengers, 41-year-old Samuel Ty-Juan Jackson of Minneapolis, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a St. Paul hospital for further care.

The other passenger, identified as 26-year-old Shablya Lupe Ferba, was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries. 

It’s not known if alcohol was involved in the deadly incident or if anyone was buckled up at the time of the crash.
