Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service forecast indicates the messy mix of icy precipitation that began to impact travel in southeastern Minnesota’s morning will continue through much of the day tomorrow. Nearly the entire state is now under a winter weather advisory because of the storm system responsible for the freezing drizzle and freezing rain that has made travel difficult and walking on sidewalks and parking lots nearly impossible in some cases.

The latest forecast calls for freezing drizzle, freezing rain, and sleet at times throughout southeastern Minnesota overnight and through tomorrow afternoon. At this point, forecasters are expecting another couple tenths of an inch of ice accumulation before the storm system exits the region late tomorrow afternoon or evening.

The icing is already contributed to hundreds of traffic crashes and vehicle spinouts in Minnesota, where roads in the southeast have been rated as partially ice covered and roads in south-central Minnesota have been completely ice covered for much of the day. Less traveled rural roadways are said to be very slippery, along with untreated sidewalks and parking lots.
