Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - The investigation involving two members of the Rochester Police Department is now in the hands of a Twin Cities firm.

Officer Ben Schlag was placed on leave February 18th after the department learned of some offensive social media posts he apparently had made. The department’s Professional Standards Manager was relieved of his duties a week later. That person - Scott Hildebrand - was in charge of the investigation involving Schlag.  Police Chief Roger Peterson says an “unspecified issue” came up that led to the decision to place Hildebrand on leave.

Peterson said Friday the city has contracted with Soldo Consulting Group, which specializes in such investigations. The group will eventually submit a factual report on the two complaints that will indicate whether any department or city policies were violated.

Peterson isn’t sure how long the investigation will take but hopes the situation can be resolved in the near future.
