Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A rural southeast Rochester home was wiped out by a fire this afternoon.

The Rochester Fire Department says the fire was reported at 5600 Meadow Drive Southeast at 1:50 PM. A statement says firefighters arrived at the scene to find the structure engulfed in flames, with the home’s occupant outside. The person reported two dogs were inside the burning home, and both pets ran outside when firefighters opened a door.

The intensity of the fire prevented firefighters from entering the house, which left them in a defensive stance, directly large volumes of water at the exterior. Fire Departments in Eyota and Dover assisted by sending tanker trucks to the scene.

As of early Thursday evening, Rochester firefighters were still at the scene about two miles east of Eastwood Golf Course putting out hot spots and monitoring the fire under the now collapsed home. A preliminary estimate has put the loss at around $250,000.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
