Mabel, MN (KROC AM News) - A Fillmore County boy who was seriously injured when a car struck the horse-drawn buggy he was riding in has died.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the accident happened Friday evening near Mabel. The man operating the buggy was 56-year-old Menno Mast of Mabel. His wife Susie and three of their children were not injured. Their 12-year-old son suffered life-threatening injuries and died Sunday.

A GoFundMe site that was set up for the boy and his family was updated Sunday with this information:

During a time when we all hold our families close, a neighbor and good friends of ours were involved in a tragic accident Dec. 20th.

Instead of preparing for Christmas celebration, they are planning a funeral for their 12-year-old son. The Mast family was on their way to a children’s Christmas program when their buggy carrying 6 family members was accidentally struck by a vehicle.

The father, Menno, suffered a fractured back and hip, and concussion and young son, Joseph, was fatally injured. Joseph was airlifted to Madison, WI and sadly died this afternoon. The other siblings suffered minor injuries, while the mother Susie was physically uninjured.
