Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A departure ceremony was held this morning for a group of soldiers assigned to a Minnesota National Guard unit based in Rochester.

Mayor Ardell Brede was among those who attended the ceremony at the International Events Center at the Rochester Airport. The soldiers are members of Company B of the Second Battalion, 135th Infantry Regiment headquartered in Mankato, which is sending about 200 National Guard members to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Their nine-month mission will be to assist the international peacekeeping force that has patrolled the Sinai since the historic 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.

The Minnesota soldiers will first undergo training at Fort Bliss in Texas before their overseas deployment begins by the end of the summer.
