Houston, MN (KROC AM News) - A deer is being blamed for sending two southeast Minnesota drivers to the hospital Sunday.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 60-year-old Esther Oldenburg of Jackson, Minnesota was driving on Highway 16 near Houston around 5:30 Sunday afternoon when a deer suddenly appeared on the roadway. The State Patrol says Oldenburg hit the brakes to avoid hitting the deer. Moments later, her SUV was rear-ended by a pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Michael Hayner of Preston.

Both drivers were taken to a La Crosse hospital. The Patrol says it appeared their injuries were non-life threatening.
