Chinese Firm is Newest Tenant of Rochester’s Discovery Square
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Chinese medical technology company is setting up shop in Rochester.
The Destination Medical Center Corporation, on the same day it is celebrating the grand opening of the new One Discovery Square Building, announced a new tenant for the health technology center in downtown Rochester. WuXi (woo-she) Diagnostics says it plans to open a research and diagnostic testing facility in One Discovery Square by the end of the year.
It will be the Shanghai-based firm’s first research facility in the U.S. A news release says WuXi wants to accelerate “esoteric diagnostic product development” and deliver more “personalized and accurate diagnostic services” to patients throughout the world by teaming with the Mayo Clinic and its advanced medical practice.
“This joint venture and WuXi Diagnostics’ new R&D center is another example of Rochester, Minnesota’s attractiveness as a global hub for healthcare innovation,” says Lisa Clarke, executive director, Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency. “One Discovery Square is a perfect location for its first U.S. research and test development facility and complements the growing list of world-leading health and MedTech companies collaborating in this space.”
Mayo recently announced Google would be establishing an office in Rochester in the new future. Their joint venture aims to speed up promising medical research using cloud-based computing and artificial intelligence.
