There's a potato library within the Rochester Public Library. You can check out potatoes there. There's also a good old fashioned seed library so you can grow all kinda of vegies. And, hold on to your hats, all the information you need to grow and eat your own food.

From the RPL website -

The Seed Library offers free, open-pollinated seeds and resources for planting, growing, harvesting, and seed saving. Grow your own food and return your saved seeds to share with the community if you are able.

A seed library is important for a lot of reasons. One of the biggest is empowering Rochester to grow their own food, increase food security, and make sure people have access to fresh, healthy food.

How to Borrow Seeds

You can check out seeds in person during Library Express hours (click here for RPL Express Hours) or, get them from the RPL Walkup Windows. Here's how to do that...

  • Click the link for the seeds you wish to borrow on the seed library page. Carrots, corn, cucumber...there's a huge variety!)
  • Click "Place Hold" for the seeds you wish to borrow.
  • Choose up to 10 seed packets per library card.
  • You'll get a text, email, or phone notification that it's time to pick up the seeds.
  • Pick up your seeds, get planting, caring for the plants, and then harvest and eat 'em! (the best part!)

10 amazing ideas for what should go in the old Shopko South store

The old Shopko South store has been sitting empty for quite some time - other than a few Halloween costumes being sold for a few months.
