Byron Man Arrested in Significant Rochester Drug Bust
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Byron man was arrested Tuesday in one of the largest drug busts in Rochester in recent memory.
Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says 39-year-old Michael Schoenfelder was taken into custody after picking up a package that had been delivered to a Rochester home.
Officers discovered the package contained 10 pounds of methamphetamine. Moilanen says that amount of meth has an estimated street value of nearly half a million dollars.
Moilanen says his department was contacted earlier in the day by police at the Twin Cities airport about a suspicious package that had arrived from California. It was addressed to a bogus name and included the Rochester address of 2926 Fremont Ct. SW.
Officers allowed the package to be delivered under a controlled delivery and then arrested Schoenfelder without incident after he took it from the house and began driving away. Moilanen says Schoenfelder admitted he knew about the package and what was in it.
Moilanen says drug-related deliveries like this are becoming more common.
