Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Work is expected to begin soon on a major road project in northwest Rochester.

The City Council Wednesday approved a $12.5-million bid submitted by Elcor Construction to reconstruct 65th St between 37th and 60th avenues.

The city public works department says the project is being driven in large part by development in the area and the fall opening of the new Dakota Middle School.

The project will include single lanes each way, two roundabouts, on-street bike lanes, and mixed-use paths connecting to a pedestrian underpass between 50th and 55th Aves NW. The underpass is expected to “enhance connectivity between the neighborhoods south of 65th St NW and the new school.”

Construction between 50th and 60th avenues will begin in March and it’s expected to have limited impact on the school when it opens. Construction between 37th and 50th avenues is scheduled to begin in March 2023.
