Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the fourth time, a trial date has been set in a Rochester murder case.

26-year-old Sao Yim made an appearance in Olmsted County court today and waived his right to a jury trial. He is now scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing at the end of this month and District Judge Kathy Wallace will hear and consider the evidence in his case during a court trial that is scheduled to begin on September 1st.

Yim was originally scheduled to stand trial in May of last year before the proceedings were postponed until November and then pushed back to late July of this year. That trial date was abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Yim is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing 40-year-old Ahmed Muafaq Abdulhussein Al Naddf following a confrontation outside the victim's northwest Rochester apartment on March 12, 2018. Prosecutors allege Yim believed Al Naddf had bumped into his car, which was parked on the street that runs past the victim's residence.

A second man charged in the case, 25-year-old Eric Lee, previously pleaded guilty to a charge of aiding an offender after the fact charge and was sentenced to 10-years on probation. Lee also agreed to testify for the prosecution at Yim's trial.
