Update 9-19 7:55 a.m. The State Patrol has identified the 17-year-old driver as Ronald Day. the crash report indicates he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Previous Version: Grand Rapids, MN (KROC-AM News)- The State Patrol suspects alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle crash that took the life of a 17-year-old boy in the Grand Rapids area early Sunday morning.

The state crash report says the Remer, MN teen was traveling south on Hwy. 200 around 1 a.m. The Buick Century he was driving straightened out at a curve and went off the roadway to the right.

The vehicle then struck a road approach causing it to go airborne, land sideways and roll. The teen driver was not buckled and ejected from the vehicle during the crash, according to the state crash report. 

The report says alcohol use is believed to be a factor in the deadly crash. The state patrol plans to release the teen’s identity on Monday morning.
