Albert Lea High School Coach Charged With Having Sex With Student
Albert Lea, MN (KROC AM News) - The head coach of the Albert Lea High School varsity girls basketball team has been charged with having sex with a student.
Arraigned Friday on one count of 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct was 32-year-old Richard Polley. His conditional bail was set at $100,000.
According to the criminal complaint, a 16-year-old student met with police Thursday. She told an investigator she had known Polley since the beginning of the school year because he was her counselor.
According to the complaint:
“Victim said that she didn’t know that Defendant took an interest in her until late December of last year when he accepted her request to add him as a Snapchat friend. Victim stated that there was a lot of small talk between herself and Defendant. Victim stated that Defendant had said that he didn’t think it was a great idea to have her on Snapchat but didn’t delete her. Victim said that at one time the conversations started to get “deeper.” Victim stated that there were conversations about no one finding out they were friends on Snapchat. Victim said that there were a few points where Defendant told her “this isn’t appropriate.”
The girl told police she went to Polley’s home late last Saturday night and they later had sex.
The school district Thursday announced it had placed Polley on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
