4 Men Involved in Minneapolis Gang War Sent to Federal Prison

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Four members of a violent Twin Cities street gang have been sent to federal prison to engaging in drug trafficking and deadly gang war in North Minneapolis

The longest sentenced was handed down Friday to 33-year-old Hakeem Flax. The Vadnais Heights man was convicted by a federal jury earlier this year for crimes associated with violent gang activity, including the trafficking of heroin and was sentenced to over 18-years in prison.

Federal prosecutors say the evidence presented at his trial showed Flax and his co-defendants engaged in a violent gang war with rival North Minneapolis gangs that resulted in the shooting deaths of gang members on both sides of the conflict. The jury was told the list of murders includes the shooting death of a member of a rival gang by Flax in August 2017.

The other members of the gang entered guilty pleas in the case. 31-year-old Domonick Wright of Brooklyn Park and 34-year-old Brian Mack of Minneapolis were given 10-year prison sentences, while 34-year-old James Brown of St. Paul was ordered to federal prison for 5-years.
