Update: Both parties are reportedly in good condition. Distracted driving a possible cause of the accident, still under investigation.

According to a release from the Faribault Police Department, their officers, Rice County Sheriff's office personnel, the Minnesota State Patrol as well as personnel from the Faribault Fire Department and North Ambulance responded to a crash involving a train and passenger vehicle, about 9:20AM Friday that occurred in the 1400 block of Second Avenue Northwest near the Faribault Woolen Mills.

It appears that a 2011 Infinity SUV driven by 49-year-old Shan Roehrick was southbound on Second Avenue when it struck a boxcar of a train backing across Second Avenue Northwest. The driver was the only person in the SUV. A railroad employee on board the train, Damien North O'Brien, 26, was also injured. Roehrick was extricated from the SUV and flown to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. O'Brien was flown to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. The helicopters picked up the victims at the Rice County Fairgrounds.

Faribault Police and the Minnesota State Patrol reconstruction unit are continuing the investigation. Criminal charges at this time are not known as the case is ongoing.
