I was just thinking the other day about when I was a kid and I got to thinking about my first car. I loved that car. Regardless of what you did as a kid. How many parties you went to, how many people you dated, whatever. You will NEVER forget your first car.

Mine was a rust colored 1976 Buick Skylark and it was a piece of sh*t. It had a bad lifter, no right turn signal, the interior was tore to hell and the roof cover on the inside, was falling, there was a hole in the floorboards that let in exhaust and the list goes on and on. Rust around the fenders. Oh God, the rust. I'm surprised it stayed on the road. But it did. For about 4 months. I paid $100. Hell, these days, I've plunked down $100 for a frickin' beer mug like it was nothing. But back then? Man, that was like a week's salary.

We would go to the Go-Mart (Local gas station) with $5 in our pocket. Buy some smokes, a couple sodas and put in the rest for gas. And back then, you could go a long way on a couple bucks of gas and all we did was drive down to the local park, then back up town. Once in a while, we'd get adventurous and drive to the next town over (8miles) and drive around in the country side, not knowing what the hell we would do if we broke down. We didn't have cell phones.

Also, growing up in the 80's, as long as you had a decent stereo in the car, it didn't matter what the car looked like. I had a Pioneer with a cassette player and 2 6x9 Pioneer speakers in the back. No subs or anything but it sounded pretty cool crankin' out those 80's hair bands.

Yeah. You never forget your first car. I'd love to see that car again but I sold it to my brother at the end of that Summer to drive in a demo derby. When it was all said and done, we had put over 4,000 miles on it that Summer, bad lifter and all. The weirdest thing was, while driving through town one day, we were being followed by a cop. Thinking I'd try to make a right hand turn to see if he was following me, the blinker started working again.I wanted to pull over and cry with joy....or, at least escape the exhaust fumes for a minute.

If you remember YOUR first car, what kid of car was it? If you have pics, share those too!
