Woman Sentenced in Stewartville Embezzlement Case
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Austin woman has been ordered to pay almost $87,000 in restitution in a Stewartville embezzlement case.
41-year-old Trina Engler was also placed on probation for ten years for a felony theft conviction stemming from an investigation launched last year by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office at the request of the administrator at the Stewartville Care Center. Investigators determined Engler failed to deposit over $50,000 in rent payments and security deposits from tenants. She was also accused of making $14,000 worth of personal purchases with a company credit card, using $13,000 in petty cash to mostly purchase Kwik Trip trip gift cards, and collecting unearned PTO benefits.
The criminal complaint says Engler told the investigator “her spending habits had gotten way out of control” and that she was “spending way beyond her means.” Engler was fired last August.
