Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A low-pressure center cruising across the plains is forecast to deliver a messy and powerful winter storm to southeastern Minnesota on Monday. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for southeastern Minnesota from 9 p.m. Sunday through midnight Monday night. Areas of south-central and southwestern Minnesota, including Mankato, are included in a Blizzard Warning that also covers a large portion of western Iowa.

Forecasters are currently predicting precipitation will arrive in the region late tonight, starting out as rain before shifting to a wintry mix and changing to all snow by midday. How much snow and ice will depend on when the temperature dips below freezing, but at the point, the National Weather Service is forecasting the heaviest snow and the heaviest icing will occur in southeastern Minnesota.

A number of schools have canceled classes for Monday, including the Rochester School District. Click here for a complete list.
