Short answer: literally at any time. It's Minnesota. Long answer: it's a bit more complicated than that.

Fall has just started in Minnesota, and we are looking at our first full week with highs in the 50s, and areas of frost. We still have plenty of time to take in the crisp fall air and enjoy the changing colors before the snow flies. Hopefully.

St. Cloud has averaged 46.1 inches of snow in a given winter.

The snowfall totals are annual averages based on weather data collected from 1981 to 2010 for the NOAA National Climatic Data Center.

CurrentResults.com has compiled this data and put it into table, also looking at when the first snow tends to fly. The first snowfall of wintertracked at MSP airport usually arrives in November, but at least once every four years, snow flies as early as October.

I know we didn't have snow in October last year, based on my deer hunting photos from November 2019. HowMuchWillItSnow.com has tracked snowfall for years, and based on their tracking, we did have half an inch fall on October 15th 2018. In 2017 we had 1/4 inch of snow on October 28th. So based on those numbers, we should be in the clear until November.

If we go off the charts and patterns on HowMuchWillItSnow.com, we can expect our first snow of the season the first of second week of November. Just in time for sitting outside all day in a deer stand.

So overall, no need to get out the boots and shovels just yet. We have about a month left of snow-free fun in our great state. Enjoy!
