Watch the ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Super Bowl Trailer
The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers may be battling it out during Super Bowl 50, but Team Captain America and Team Iron Man are battling it out in Captain America: Civil War. Right before kickoff of this year’s Super Bowl, Marvel debuted the brand new Captain America: Civil War trailer.
Before we go any further, sorry, no Spider-Man. It would’ve been a nice surprise, but that’s something Marvel and Sony seem content to wait until closer to the release date to reveal.
There’s only one line of dialogue in the footage, which is mostly made up of quick shots of footage from the movie, but it’s telling: Iron Man says to someone (Cap), “You chose the wrong side.” (We’re not counting the chanting of “We…Stand…United!” in the background.)
As you can see in this Super Bowl trailer, the Captain America: Civil War teams align as such:
Team Captain America: Hawkeye, Falcon, Bucky/Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Agent 13 and Scarlet Witch.
Team Iron Man: Vision, Black Widow, Black Panther, War Machine and Spider-Man.
Also of note in the trailer is Tony Stark’s new “Iron Watch” (hey, a man’s gotta keep up with Apple), which expands to his normal gauntlet that he uses to stop a point blank bullet from Winter Soldier.
Beyond the lack of Spider-Man, Marvel is still holding the film’s villains, Crossbones and Baron Zemo, close to the vest with no appearance in this footage either.
In addition to the new trailer, Marvel also debuted a new set of Civil War themed emojis for Twitter today including Captain America, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man and Black Panther.
If you’re excited for Captain America: Civil War, you’re not the only one. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said it’s “one of the best Marvel movies ever” and and Civil War is one of the highest testing movies in Marvel history. But, that’s what happens when you have a movie where half of your favorite superheroes fight your other favorite superheroes. Oh yeah, and Spider-Man.
Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Daniel Bruhl, Emily VanCamp, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland and Frank Grillo.
Captain America: Civil War’s plot picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6.
