Watch Shinedown’s Brent Smith Do His Bathroom Vocal Warm-Up
Shinedown's Brent Smith has granted extreme access to outsiders with a candid look at his pre-show vocal warm-up routine, a crucial exercise for singers that can often look unusual to the uninitiated.
But with absolutely no embarrassment in his presentation, the seasoned musician blasted through the abbreviated warmup he does for long Shinedown concerts, a group of quick singing drills he also explained in the video shared Tuesday (July 23). Watch it down toward the bottom of this post.
"Twenty years of touring professionally, and — knock on wood, there's many, many, many more years of that — people always ask me what do I do with my voice, as far as warming up to go out and perform," Smith says in the clip clearly filmed inside a backstage bathroom. "Depends on how long I'm gonna be on stage. These shows are an hour-and-a-half long, so I'm not gonna spend twenty minutes warming up. So I really just do a couple of things."
From there, the Shinedown frontman provides ample instruction for novice rockers, detailing the facial stretches and vocal methods he employs before hitting the stage for a lengthy performance.
Of which there appear to be many coming up, as the band are hitting the road this fall, and you could even win a trip to see Shinedown live in Chicago. For more info and tickets for the band's current tour head here.
