WATCH: Man Rigged Flashbang in Truck After Repeated Break-Ins

Rashes of car break-ins in New Orleans led one man to become fed up enough to start to fight back.

While yes, he does have to replace his window, he came up with a way to chase away car thieves that he doesn't even have to be present for, in the form of a rigged flashbang.

“To see him like gleefully walk up and just smash my eighth window in the past couple months and jump in and then you know to see the detonation go off and his reaction,” the man told WVUE.

This time, the broken window stung a little less than the other six times he's had his truck broken into in the last eight weeks.

Surveillance video shows the suspect (or victim) smash the window of the truck, and crawl into the cab with his feet still hanging out of the window.

The flash comes when the thief opens the center console where the bang is rigged up.

Once the bang goes off, the thief runs back to his getaway vehicle, where his friend drives away.

“He probably didn’t get hurt that bad, but it wasn’t pleasant and it might deter him and his friends and tell other people not to do this too because, without something like this, there is no consequence because they’re not going to get arrested,” the truck owner said.

The New Orleans Police Department told WVUE that rigging a device to detonate can be considered a bomb, is highly illegal.
