Watch Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale Perform ‘I Will Always Love You’ at HerrinFesta Italiana
Though Halestorm have a solid catalog of original material, the band has not been afraid to pull out the occasional cover song during performances and has even recorded three EPs worth of cover songs over the years. But during a recent performance at the HerrinFesta Italiana in Herrin, Ill., Lzzy Hale took on an iconic track that showcased the strength and soul of her voice -- the Dolly Parton classic "I Will Always Love You." Fans of pop music may recognize "I Will Always Love You" more as the Whitney Houston chart-topper from The Bodyguard soundtrack rather than the Parton original.
"I'm gonna have a little fun here. Let's see if I can remember this," said Hale standing at the piano. After singing the opening notes, the crowd cheered for Hale, who stopped for a moment to acknowledge before starting the song again and using the sparse piano playing as the sole backing to her soulful performance. Halestorm continue to tour, although work has begun on their next album. It was recently revealed that veteran rock producer Nick Raskulinecz is working with the band on their upcoming album with some of the sessions taking place at the Dark Horse Recording Studio just outside of Nashville.
Hale told radio station 97.7 WQLZ that the band was "about halfway" through the production process for their next disc. "We have a lot of tracks. We've been kind of doing both [recording and working on pre-production]. We've been writing in my personal studio, at my house, and then we've been going into an actual studio with a producer and doing kind of pre-pro as we go along, which we've never really done. 'Cause usually, it's, like, 'Okay, we have all the songs together, and then we'll go in the studio.' And this time we have like half-songs and then we go in the studio and we finish them," explained Hale. "We have some keeper song takes and there's maybe some vocal or guitar takes that we won't redo later, but, yeah, it's everything all at once at the same time, so we're multitasking."
As stated, the work on the new album hasn't really kept the band off the road too much. They currently have shows booked into October. See their scheduled dates here.
