WARNING: Drive-Thru Workers In Rochester Can Always Hear You
You pull up to your favorite fast food joint, excited to order a burger or a taco (or both!). But when you reach the drive-thru speaker ready to make your order, no one responds.
"Hey," you utter into the speaker. "Is anyone there?"
Nothing. Now the hanger is starting to take over, and you're getting annoyed.
"HELLO. I WOULD LIKE TO ORDER A BURGER. AND A TACO. HELLLLOOOOOO!!!"
Still nothing.
"What's taking these idiots so long," you mutter to yourself.
So here's the thing: They totally heard you the entire time. According to one Reddit user who has worked behind the drive-thru window:
"When you're sitting at a drive-thru speaker, we can always hear everything - even if you think your interaction is over. Be careful what personal details you reveal to strangers."
Note to self: Don't say my Social Security Number seconds after ordering a Crunchwrap Supreme.
"As soon as you drive up to the speaker, we get a beep over our headsets and the transmission begins. If we don't answer you right away - we can hear everything. If we apologize and say we'll be with you in a minute - you're not on hold, we can hear everything. If you've ordered but the drive-thru line won't let you pull ahead yet - we can hear every single thing you're saying. I wish I could forget the stuff I've heard."
YIKES. Consider this a reminder to watch what you say at the drive thru...because Big Burger is listening.
