Vikings Still Scheduled To Take on the Texans Sunday
The NFL had shut down their team headquarters earlier this week due to concerns about the coronavirus, but the Vikings ARE still scheduled to take on the Texans this Sunday... at least, for now.
That's the word Friday morning from the Vikings team headquarters, the TCO Performance Center in Eagan. The team got the green light from the NFL to open things back up and resume practice activities Thursday, after having evacuated the facility early Tuesday. And that was on word that several members of the Titans-- who the Vikings played at U.S. Bank Stadium here in Minnesota Sunday-- had tested positive for COVID-19.
That, of course, set in motion the NFL's protocol (we're most familiar with the NFL's 'concussion protocol' but apparently there is a litany of other NFL protocols when dealing with the coronavirus outbreak) that shut the Vikings down for two days.
But just what did that mean for their game this week? Was it canceled? Postponed? Or was their entire season being shut down? There were many questions, but I didn't see many answers... until Thursday, that is.
According to the Star Tribune, because no members of the team, the coaching staff, or any other employee with the organization tested positive for COVID-19, the Vikings were given the OK to open things back up and resume practice for Sunday's game. Of course, that effectively gives them two fewer days than a normal practice week to get ready to take on the Texans.
And, offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak said that didn't make things easy. "It’s been challenging, let’s be honest," he told the Star Tribune in the story. "Trying to get our work done, trying to get our computers moved, trying to get all our stuff and our preparation ready for the players, it’s been a challenge," he noted.
But, as they say in show business (which the NFL pretty much is these days), the show must go on, so Sunday's game with the Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston is still set to go on as scheduled-- at least for now, anyway. The NFL said things could always change should something develop regarding the virus. That's a noon kickoff Sunday, and the game's set to be televised on Fox.
