Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Area military veterans are invited to the 15th annual Veterans Day program in Rochester Wednesday.

It will be held at the Rochester International Event Center, near the city airport. A free breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The formal Veterans Day program is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to run about an hour. One of the participants this year will be Lee Swendsen, a World War II veteran who will be celebrating his 101st birthday on Veterans Day!

The event is put on by the volunteers from the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial committee, the DAV, POW/MIA Riders Association,and other volunteers. The free breakfast is being supplied by the Canadian Honker and the Event Center.   

The official state observance of Veterans Day will include a program in Inver Grove Heights. The state event will also include a free breakfast from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. The program will begin at 10 a.m.

Among those scheduled to take part is Larry Shellito, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner. The state event will be held at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights.

The Rochester Area Family YMCA is also reaching out to vets. It is offering a free guest pass that is good for the entire family.
