Think Minnesota’s Roads Are Bad? Study Says They’re Worse in This State
Our roads may get a bad rap here in Minnesota but a new survey says they're even worse in a neighboring state!
Much like the proverbial death and taxes, hearing someone complaining about the shape of our roads here in Minnesota is just something you can count on, right? Some of the time, those complaints are valid. And while some of our roads here in the Land of 10,000 Potholes Lakes may indeed need some work, a new study finds they're in even worse shape in a state just east of here.
That's right, the roads in good 'ol Wisconsin are even worse than our roads here in Minnesota. At least, if you believe the results of this new Consumer Affairs survey. In fact, their new Worst Roads in America survey found that my home state of Wisconsin has the third-worst roads in the country.
Only Hawaii and Rhode Island have worse roads than America's Dairyland, the survey noted, with Rhode Island having the WORST roads in the country.
Meanwhile, the survey says our roads here in Minnesota aren't in great shape (we're not in the top five states with the best roads), but they're not horrible either. The Consumer Affairs survey says Minnesota ranks 33rd on the list of the States With the Worst Roads, putting us well above-average (though not necessarily great.)
So what's the state with the Best Roads in America? That would be Kansas, which the survey noted, placed first likely because of increased funding recently.
To get the results, Consumer Affairs says they surveyed 1,027 people across all 50 states and asked them to rate their roads on a scale from 1 to 10. They also factored in the dollar amount each state spends per mile of road with data from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
And speaking of costs when it comes to driving, do you remember what a gallon of gasoline cost when you first started driving? Keep scrolling to see what gas sold for the year you got your license!
