Rochester, MN (KROC-AM New) - The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office and Rochester Police say a Rochester woman's experience last Friday should serve as a cautionary tale for everyone.

Sheriff's Captain Scott Behrns says the 52-year-old woman left her vehicle locked in the parking lot at the entrance to the Douglas Trail along 75th Street Northwest while she went for a walk around 3:30 Friday afternoon. When she returned to her vehicle she discovered a window had been broken out and her purse stolen. The overall loss from the broken window and the valuables in the purse was between $700 and $800.

Captain Behrns and Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen say they have seen a rise in this type of theft recently. Both law enforcement officials strongly advise leaving anything of value at home or another secure location rather than unattended in a vehicle
