If you've been in Rochester long enough, you know that Shops at University Square was not always the name of the shopping and dining center in Downtown Rochester. And now, it's back to its original name!

Opened in 1989, it was called Centerplace Galleria Mall until the U moved in. Then, in 2007, it changed to Shops at University Square. In changing the name, they've mixed a little bit of history with a little bit of now. Soon you'll start seeing signage with the new name, Galleria at University Square.

The name change is only for the two floors of shopping. I don't have info on why the name change, but it comes just in time to celebrate the re-opening of shopping and dining.

In Jeff Kiger's Post Bulletin story, Titan Development's Mark Steege said about the reopening...

"I feel the retailers are very prepared. Our cleaning people are very attentive about cleaning high touch areas like the escalator handrails, elevator buttons and the bathrooms...We want it to be safe and welcoming.”
