Not that my opinion matters on the story about Harambe the gorilla being shot at the Cincinnati Zoo, but the only logical thing that could have been done was to shoot him. It's unfortunate, but it had to happen. Now, unlike many of the people on Facebook (apparently), I am not an animal expert but even I know that if a chimpanzee, ape, lion, or any other animal is shot with a tranquilizer gun, they're gonna go ape sh*t (no pun intended). If you watch the video below, you can see some workers in another incident shot a chimpanzee, which is obviously MUCH smaller than a 450-pound gorilla, with a tranquilizer gun. All that did was seem to anger the chimp and he immediately went after the person that shot him. To quote the woman from the news piece:

"Tranquilizers can take too long and can actually irritate large animals"

And, as we've seen in the past, even chimpanzees have amazing strength. But, check out this video and you'll see how this chimp reacted after getting shot in the back with a tranquilizer gun.

Imagine that chimp has another 200 to 300 more pounds of muscle on him. With a gorilla's strength, imagine the kind of damage he could do then if he's angry about getting a dart in his neck, back or wherever. He is not going to be pleasant. The animal is going to be extremely irritated and cause some Jean Claude VanDamage. They did what they had to do to save that child.

Now, here comes the dumbest comment on this situation so far.

After hearing about this whole story after getting home from my Memorial Day vacation, I saw a clip on 'The View' where the women were talking about the attack and Joy Behar actually said:

"I would maybe rally everybody and say, 'Let's go! Go in there and save that kid.' "

I'd be like, "Okay, Joy! You lead the way. We're right behind you." What a dumb comment. I don't care how many people you send in there. If you're unarmed, you're gonna get tore up by a 450-pound gorilla and it's not going to feel good.

Now, I'm not saying if the mother is at fault or not, simply because I do not know all the facts. I wasn't there. I heard one instance where she was off getting a beer and another where she was tending to another child and turned and her son was gone. I can assure any parent with young children (2, 3 or 4 years old), if you haven't already, you're going to lose sight of your child for a split second or two and you're going to freak out. If it hasn't happened, it will. If not, well, look at you, you're the greatest parent in the world.  But, I'll wait to hear on what she was doing and cast my judgement then. But until ALL the facts come out, I'm just gonna keep it to myself - unlike the hundreds of thousands of parenting specialists/zoo keepers/animal experts on Facebook.

And when it DOES happen to you, be sure to brace yourself for the parent shaming that comes with social media these days regardless of the situation.

Okay. I'm done. But I do want to leave you with one more video. Look at the sheer terror on this guy's face when a gorilla in the jungle just comes up and grabs his leg and starts to drag him off like a rag doll. Like it's nothing.
