Tasers Used to Subdue Suicidal Rochester Man
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police used tasers to resolve a crisis situation involving a local military veteran dealing with service-related mental health issues.
Captain John Sherwin says the incident occurred early Saturday at an apartment in the 800 block of 41st Street Northwest. He says officers responded to a 911 call that came in shortly after midnight about a 33-year-old intoxicated and suicidal man holding a knife to his throat.
Upon their arrival, the officers found the man in his apartment and spent a considerable amount of time talking to him through an open doorway. Captain Sherwin says, when it became apparent the situation was deteriorating, two of the officers charged inside and simultaneously used their tasers to incapacitate the man before he was able to harm himself.
The man was then taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
