Student from Rochester Minnesota Named U.S. Presidential Scholar

161 US High School Seniors have been recognized as the 57th Presidential Scholars, three of them are students from Minnesota. In Rochester, the honor goes to Lucas Scott Eggers, attending Choate Rosemary Hall, a boarding school in Wallingford, Connecticut!

According to his family, Lucas is excited to come back to Minnesota for college (and will be going to Macalester).

This Isn't the First Time Lucas Beggars Made Rochester News

This isn't the first time I've written about Lucas Eggers. Back in 2017 he made headlines with spelling and geography bees!

(2017) Lucas Eggers, a home-schooled Rochester 8th grader, was the 2017 National Geographic Minnesota State Bee Champion. and is now a Top Ten finalist in the 29th annual National Geographic Bee being held now in Washington DC.

In Saint Paul, Madelyn Dietz makes the list attending Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen, Michigan (she gets special recognition as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in Arts). Also from Saint Paul, Esperanza Lee has been honored, attending Woodbury High School, Woodbury, Minnesota.

What Is A Presidential Scholar?

Of the 3.6 million students expected to graduate from high school this year, more than 6,000 candidates qualified for the 2021 awards. OF those, only 161 were selected. It is a pretty impressive group.

“The 2021 Presidential Scholars represent extraordinary achievements for our extraordinary times,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
