Walz while discussing Minnesota bars and restaurants, says limited outdoor serving will be allowed. He says it's not a solution but it could help in some situations. The ban on indoor serving in those businesses will remain in place until at least January 11th. READ MORE HERE

Original Story:

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is scheduled to update Minnesotans on the State's response to COVID-19 during a press conference Wednesday afternoon. Sources say Walz is going to extend the current shutdown order affecting Minnesota bars and restaurants through the holidays, allow gyms and fitness centers to reopen Saturday with capacity limits, and allow youth sports to start practicing on January 4th. He is also expected to discuss holiday gatherings and a plan for schools going forward.

The Star Tribune is now reporting that "Bars and restaurants will be allowed to resume outdoor service, but it will be limited to 50% capacity or 100 customers." This new order would prohibit in-person dining until January 11th. Is outdoor dining going to help restaurants? Maybe? I'm not sure people are willing to deal with the cold. It certainly doesn't sound like much fun to me.

Our restaurants have been very creative over the last 9-months so who knows maybe they have some great ideas on how to make outdoor dining in the winter work. In the meantime, I'll still be supporting them by ordering takeout and delivery and I encourage you to continue patronizing them as well.

The Governor's press conference is scheduled for 1:15 PM Wednesday afternoon. You can listen to it live on News Talk 1340 KROC-AM and 96.9 FM, on the KROC News app, and at krocnews.com. You can watch it live, here.

Meanwhile, a group called ReOpen Minnesota Coalition posted a complete list of Minnesota businesses that will be ignoring the Executive Order from Governor Walz and reopening. Read more about ReOpen Minnesota, here.
