If you’re looking for new technology with a kick of nostalgia, Sony has your back. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Walkman, Sony is releasing a modern day version based on the classic cassette player.

The way we listen to music has advanced greatly since 1979, evolving from vinyl and cassettes to CDs, then to Minidiscs, iPods, iPhones, streaming and wonderfully back to vinyl again. Cassette tapes saw a slight resurgence, but the new Walkman NW-A105 will be fully digital.

With a specially designed logo and case to pay tribute to the original Walkman, the 40th anniversary version will include a S-Master HX digital amplifier to deliver high-resolution audio and reduce distortion, a DSEE HX processor to upscale compressed audio and even a vinyl processor to give digital tracks the character of vinyl.

The new Walkman will even provide 26 hours of battery life, which is more than the majority of smartphones. It will come with 16GB of internal storage and microSD support, so users can expand on its storage power.

The Walkman NW-A105 price hasn’t been announced yet, but a release in time for Christmas is expected.
