Charlie Hunnam Talks Possible ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spinoff Appearance
Sons of Anarchy fans got a burst of speed with news that FX had officially ordered Kurt Sutter’s Mayans MC spinoff, but even with “a post Jax Teller world” right there in the synopsis, could the former SAMCRO president make an appearance? Charlie Hunnam is open to the idea, and even has a suggestion how.
You’re warned of full Sons of Anarchy spoilers from here on out, but as you might well remember, the final moments of the FX biker drama’s series finale saw Jax mirroring his father’s fate by plowing head-on into the path of an eighteen-wheeler. Normally that would pretty much discount Jax from popping up in a spinoff set after the original series, but when asked by TMZ, Hunnam had an easy suggestion to overcome it:
Listen, if they call me, if they want me to do a little dream sequence. I’ll do anything for Jax, I love that guy, but I think I’m dead.
Meanwhile, so reads the first Mayans MC synopsis:
Mayans MC is set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves.
Sutter co-wrote the new project with producing partner Elgin James, and will return to direct the pilot as an executive producer. Production will commence in March, on what FX previously described as a “dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1% outlaw, this time reflected through a Latino lens.” The present day setting could allow for occasional crossover with surviving Sons of Anarchy characters, while Emilio Rivera is rumored to reprise his former role as Mayans president Marcus Álvarez.
Casting will arrive in the coming months, but should Mayans MC bring back its Sons of Anarchy lead in a spiritual sense?
