Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Winona teenager was taken into custody this morning on charges connected to a threatening social media posting.

A press release issued by the Winona Police Department says a Winona High School student approached a staff member after viewing a Snapchat post by someone threatening to “shoot up” the school. Winona Police were able to trace the message to a 15-year-old boy within a matter of minutes, leading to his arrest on a charge of Threats of Violence. The Winona County Attorney is now reviewing the case to determine the actual charges the teen will face.

Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrack praised the student who alerted school officials, saying the action was instrumental in bringing a quick and safe resolution to a very serious situation.

This is the second such threat investigated by authorities in southeastern Minnesota this week. Faribault Police are still working to identify the source of a Snapchat post from last Thursday that included a threat to "shoot up" the Faribault High School and Middle School on Halloween.
