Health officials say the outbreak linked to pre-cut melon has sickened 60 people in five Midwestern states.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's website (CDC), Caito Foods LLC recalled pre-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fruit medleys containing at least one of those melons that were produced at its facility in Indianapolis.

The five states where people got sick (so far) are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. Georgia, Kentucky and North Carolina also have stores where the fruit was also distributed to, but officials say people should throw away or return the recalled products.

Recalled products were sold in clear, plastic clamshell containers at Costco, Jay C, Kroger, Payless, Owen’s, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Walgreens, Walmart, and Whole Foods/Amazon.

In the case of Costco, the company has already begun contacting those who have purchased their Mixed Fruit Bowl via email due to the potential Salmonella contamination. In the email, they suggest if you have any of this product left, DO NOT EAT IT and immediately return it to your local Costco for a full refund. You can also contact Renaissance Foods at 888-449-9386 with any questions you may have.

The CDC says there have been no deaths reported with this case. Those sickened often develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated food. The illness often lasts 4 to 7 days.
