Rochester’s New Theater Opens This Weekend
It's here! The highly anticipated independent movie theater, Gray Duck is officially opening this weekend. We first started hearing about this unique theater coming to Rochester last summer. The owners completely transformed the old building on 6th Ave NW into a gorgeous theater AND coffee house. Yes, you can get Fiddlehead coffee there too - yum!
When I talked to Andy, the owner of Gray Duck, he expressed his passion for all things film saying how they wanted to bring the experience of cinema and film culture to an area that didn't have it. They plan on screening foreign, documentary, indie, and classic film in addition to hosting a variety of film events such as Q&As with filmmakers, after-film discussions, movie trivia nights, marathons and binges, non-profit spotlights, and so much more!
You can be part of their opening night! They'll be hosting a grand opening party on Friday, May 3rd. Festivities start at 6:30 p.m. with a red carpet event and a tour. The film starts at 7p - they'll be showing the 1925 version of Charlie Chaplin's Gold Rush. Rochester native, Christopher Alexander will be providing live musical accompaniment to the feature.
