Rochester’s 2018 Property Tax on Tonight’s Agenda

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Council is set to adopt the city’s 2017 budget and property tax levy.

A vote is scheduled this evening on the staff recommendation, based on previous City Council discussions, to approve a spending blueprint that totals almost $286 million that would be partially funded by a $68.5 million property tax levy. If the council adopts the 2018 levy at that level, it would be 9.75-percent, or about $6 million higher than the current city property tax.

The City Council has the option of enacting last-minute changes that could lower the levy, but not increase it beyond the amount listed in the resolution.

The Olmsted County Board will be adopting its 2018 property tax levy and budget on Tuesday. The recommended tax levy is just under $98.4 million. That represents a $6.4 million increase, which works out to a hike of about 7-percent when compared to the county’s current property tax levy.
