Downtown Rochester has a bunch of great places for a fun selfie but one of the top spots is the well-known Downtown Rochester, Mn sign.  Bright red and taller than me, it stands out in the Peace Plaza just ready for someone to say "cheese".  Unfortunately, if you go to take a gorgeous selfie with the sign right now you are going to see some of the damage that accidentally happened recently.  I took a few photos so you could see it for yourself.

Photos of the damage on the Downtown Rochester sign

One of Rochester's most Instagrammable locations recently suffered a tragedy.

How did it get damaged?  I've seen some speculation in the social media world on how the huge sign got damaged.  It didn't seem like anyone reached out to the Rochester Downtown Alliance to find out for sure what the cause was so I sent a few messages to see if I could find out.  Karli McElroy, Senior Director of Placemaking, stated that "the sign was accidentally hit by snow removal equipment during the last snow storm, and we are working through the process of getting it fixed."

Do you have a favorite spot in Rochester for selfies?  I'd love to hear about your favorite places!  Send me a chat message on our app or send me a message to my Facebook page (Jessica On The Radio) or DM me on Instagram.

If you walk downtown to check out the big, red sign, be sure to stop in and support some of the businesses.  The last year has been tough and Rochester has lost a lot of businesses.  You can see the full list of the places that closed below.
