Rochester Teenager Arrested as Suspect in GameStop Robbery
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester teenager has been arrested as one of the two suspects who robbed a business Monday night and he has admitted he was the one who hit an employee on the head with a hammer.
Arrested Wednesday night was 18-year-old Jacob Meier.
When police went to his apartment, he was using one of the game consoles taken in the robbery at the northside GameStop store. Other stolen items were found in his apartment.
Police continue looking for the other suspect.
Officers talked to the victim for the first time Wednesday at St.Marys Hospital and found him talkative and in good spirits. He is being treated for a fractured skull.
Police Capt. John Sherwin says a tip led to the arrest and that the caller was aware of the $5,000 reward being offered in the case. The reward was offered by the corporate office of the GameStop company.
Sherwin says he has never seen such a company response to a crime like this in his career as an officer. He says it’s rare when a company offers a reward. Sherwin says the company even sent one of its corporate security officials to Rochester Wednesday to meet with local investigators.
Sherwin says an updated report on the robbery shows games and other items were taken and they were valued at $2500.
Sherwin says Meier has a history of assaultive behavior. Court records show he was placed on probation three weeks ago after pleading guilty to head-butting a Rochester police officer during an incident in October.
He could face attempted murder and other charges in this case.
