Rochester Students To Sound Off On Mental Health
These Rochester kids are about to do something amazing.
High school can be tough. Recently, lockdowns have seemingly "plagued" John Marshall High School in Rochester. While the reasons behind the actions of those who caused them have yet to be revealed, JM students are staying focused otherwise. This includes students attending Mayo High School, Century, and really every high school in the entire Rochester Public School District.
They aren't just focused on their upcoming graduation. They're also focused on the mental health of our community.
A recent study suggests there is a clear reason why caring for mental health is a priority for high school students. It states, 11% of both male and female Minnesota high school students reported having a depressive episode. That's only what's reported.
A Facebook post from Tuesday (via Rochester Public Schools) explained that students would soon have a chance to ask questions about mental health, share their stories, and develop strategies to combat the worst of it.
Mayo High School will host this panel on Tuesday, May 29th at 6:30 pm.
As someone who suffers from both anxiety and depression (and is still currently being treated for both), I wish we had something like this at my high school back in Pittsburgh. Locally, I've found a lot of help.
Talking about mental health is sometimes the best medicine, so I really encourage students to attend this event after the upcoming long weekend.
