Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was assaulted and robbed while out for a walk in a southeast part of the city - and his attacker told him he was Jesus.

Police say the incident happened Saturday afternoon in the area of 17th Ave and 20th St.

The 36-year-old victim says the other man walked up, asked where he was going and began walking with him. The man asked the victim some more questions and stood in front of him.

The victim says as he began to walk away, the other man pushed him into a marshy area and began punching him while his face was underwater. Police say the man told the victim he was Jesus and that “God cannot help you today.” He took the victim’s phone and walked away.

Officers spotted him nearby sitting along Marion Rd. When the officers made contact with him, the man ran into traffic. The officers eventually subdued him and after he was checked out at St. Marys Hospital, he was taken to jail.

Police say the man is not Jesus, but instead 36-year-old Eugene Mclain who has no permanent address.
