Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The man accused of raping a Rochester woman earlier this week was caught in part because she was able to get his license plate number.

The man had offered the woman and her boyfriend a ride home from a downtown bar early Tuesday and police say both were “pretty drunk.” In fact, the woman passed out by the time the man drove to near the 4th St SE Holiday station and forced her boyfriend out of the vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman says she woke up to find the man with his clothes off. She says he told her to be quiet and then raped her in the car. The man drove back to the Holiday station and let the woman go. But before he drove off, she was able to get his license plate number.

The number was traced to a vehicle owned by 24-year-old Bakil Dahir and was spotted parked downtown. Dahir was found walking nearby and taken in for questioning.

He has since been charged with criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and felony assault. He was arraigned Thursday and his bail was set at $80,000.
